Eastern Washington .5MGD WWTP Service Water booster/filter upgrade, saves big $
The plant had an existing service water booster system which was piecemealed, old and unreliable. They were also having a major problem of organic and solids material getting through the system and clogging their spray nozzles and chem feed system, etc… requiring more maintenance than they had the time or effort for. The problem had gotten worse over time resulting in large quantities of potable water being needed to mitigate the problem.
Reiner Pump Systems worked with their Superintendent, Director, and Administrator to come up with a plan for a new booster system with some form of filtration to help solve their problems. RPS worked with Tigerflow to source and select an organic auto filtration system that backflushed itself and worked in conjunction with the new proposed constant pressure booster system. RPS and the WWTP also planned and worked with a local Contractor to install this packaged system to fit in their existing basement structure. The filtration size was in debate for some time.
The reason for the booster skid system was to filter out any solids, plastics, fog, or particulates that come from the bottom of our chlorine contact chamber that is used for our non-potable water system. The booster skid runs all the yard hydrants and equipment for the facility. Saving us anywhere from $4000-$6000 a month on our domestic water usage. The booster skid also allows us to maintain a system wide pressure up to 100 PSI at 300 GPM, we don’t have to use pressure tanks anymore to help maintain the system pressure because the booster skid has 2 pumps that are controlled by VFD’s and there is no water hammer or loss of pressure during the cycle prosses. The filter has an auto back wash system that we plumbed straight into our WAS line allowing the scum collected by the filter to be removed from our prosses. Tigerflow and Reiner Pump Systems was able to design our skid in a way that allowed it to be split into 2 different parts allowing us to maneuver the skid in into the basement of the pump house where we were able to reassemble it with ease.
